In celebration of Lunar New Year, the ESC Club organized an engaging Diversity Culture Promotion event at one of San Diego’s public libraries. The event aimed to foster cultural understanding and appreciation by immersing both children and adults in the rich traditions of Chinese culture. Visitors were invited to sample a variety of Chinese snacks, offering a delicious glimpse into the country’s diverse culinary heritage. Educational stations were set up throughout the area, where attendees could learn about the 12 Chinese zodiac animals and discover which one corresponded to their birth year, and take home a sticker with their zodiac animal on it.

Guests visit our Diversity Culture Promotion and try on traditional Tang suits and qipaos. Holding Chinese fans, they take photos to keep as cherished memories of our event.
In addition to doing activities, guests had the opportunity to try on traditional Chinese attire, including elegant qipaos and Tang suits, and take memorable photos in their new cultural outfits. A hands-on paper cutting workshop allowed participants to try their hand at the intricate and symbolic art form, often used to decorate homes during festive seasons. One of the highlights of the event was the distribution of red envelopes—an iconic symbol of good fortune and blessings—each filled with chocolate coins to delight children and symbolize prosperity.

Visitors try cutting paper into Lunar New Year window decorations to bring Chinese culture home with them. Some printouts are more challenging than others, but the end results for both the easy and difficult ones are worth the effort. With the help of ESC Club members and parents, beautiful shapes with detailed words and animals are created from adults and children who are eager to try a traditional Chinese craft.
The celebration also featured traditional decorations that shared the legends and history behind Lunar New Year. The atmosphere was filled with joy, engagement, and a sense of community as people of all backgrounds came together to celebrate and learn about China’s diverse history. Through fun and interactive activities, the ESC Club created a memorable experience that not only entertained but also educated the public about Chinese traditions, making the Lunar New Year celebration a meaningful and inclusive cultural exchange.
