On 07/25/2025 a special day trip this summer, ESC Club proudly joined hands with three other student organizations to deliver a high-impact, hands-on coding class at the Children Without Borders (CWB) Academy in Tijuana, Mexico. Representing our club was Alex Tang, who led a dynamic session that introduced coding to students aged 8–16—many of whom were experiencing the world of computer programming for the very first time.
CWB Academy provides bilingual, multicultural education from kindergarten through 12th grade, built on a California-accredited curriculum. Their mission—to deliver accessible and global education—aligns closely with the values of ESC Club. It was a natural and meaningful collaboration.
During the camp, Alex guided the students through a block-based coding class using Scratch, a platform developed by MIT to make programming engaging and intuitive for beginners. Using a custom-developed lesson plan, Alex taught the students how to create their own interactive animation project called “Voice Cats.” The class was structured step-by-step, allowing students to learn by doing while gaining confidence in digital creativity
The excitement in the classroom was undeniable. Students not only created their own animated characters but also began to see how technology could become part of their academic and personal futures. The experience opened doors for many of them, offering a glimpse into a world they hadn’t yet imagined.
Beyond teaching, Alex found personal joy and growth in the experience. “It was so rewarding to share my passion for coding while also practicing my Spanish and learning from the students,” he shared. “Their curiosity and creativity were truly inspiring.”
Looking ahead, Alex will be leading the ESC Club’s cross-border education initiative, offering continued coding instruction to CWB students through both remote and in-person formats next semester. His leadership in this program marks the beginning of a deeper, ongoing partnership between ESC and CWB Academy.
