Promoting Cultural Understanding Through Chinese Dumpling-Making
Lakeside, CA – June 12, 2025 — On the final day of school, Ashley Fang, a passionate member of the ESC (East Side Community) Club, visited Riverview International Academy’s Mandarin Immersion Program to lead a hands-on cultural workshop celebrating a beloved Chinese culinary tradition—dumpling-making.

Representing the ESC Club, Ashley taught students how to fold and shape dumplings, sharing the cultural history and festive significance of this popular dish in Chinese tradition. Through this hands-on culinary experience, students learned not only a new skill but also gained insight into the values of family, celebration, and heritage that dumplings represent
Throughout the workshop, Ashley’s warm presence and clear instruction fostered a welcoming and enthusiastic environment. Students were eager to get involved, especially those handling dough for the first time. As they shaped dumplings and practiced their Mandarin vocabulary, laughter and flour filled the air.
“Ashley brought so much joy to the classroom,” one Riverview staff member shared. “The students loved learning from someone close to their age who made culture come alive.”

The excitement was summed up perfectly when students exclaimed, “It’s so fun! We hope to see you again and more!”—a sign of the joy and connection created through the experience.
This event underscores ESC Club’s commitment to intercultural education and youth leadership. Ashley’s visit marked a meaningful exchange between students of different ages and backgrounds, and Riverview expressed interest in continuing this partnership in future years.
“Sharing Chinese traditions with younger students is such a powerful way to build curiosity and pride,” Ashley reflected. “It was an honor to represent the ESC Club and help create a joyful memory for Riverview students on their last day of school.”
Thank you to Riverview International Academy and the ESC Club for making this cultural celebration a success.
