On Oct 18th,2025. The ESC Club was honored to join Riverview International Academy’s Cultural Festival, celebrating global heritage and cultural diversity! Six of our club members hosted hands-on activities that brought the beauty and creativity of Chinese traditions to life.
Riverview International Academy’s annual Cultural Festival is a joyful celebration of multicultural education and community diversity. Located in the Lakeside School District, Riverview International Academy is a unique trilingual public school offering instruction in English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese, serving a vibrant Latina community and promoting global citizenship through language and culture.
✨ Cultural Highlights:
🖋 Calligraphy & Water Writing on Xuan Paper – Children learned how to use Chinese fiber-tip pens to practice strokes on special “Xuan paper,” known for its smooth texture, strength, and resistance to creasing. Students wrote their names in Chinese on custom bookmarks to take home as cultural keepsakes.
✂️ Traditional Paper Cutting Art – Young participants discovered how a single piece of red paper could be transformed into animal and flower shapes, learning patience, precision, and the symbolic meaning behind the art.
🥮 Mooncake Making & Tasting – The most popular booth! Kids used mooncake molds and colorful plasticine to create their own mooncake shapes, while families sampled authentic mooncakes prepared by our club. The activity introduced the story and traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival, celebrating family reunion and gratitude.
🎎 Cultural Display & Traditional Dress – Our booth featured beautiful Luna Festival decorations and traditional Chinese attire, offering families a glimpse into one of Asia’s most cherished cultural celebrations.
