2025 Summer Online Class – Real-World Case Studies
MIT APP Inventor-Empowered by Technology
ESC Club proudly wrapped up its second annual summer online MIT App Inventor camp, held from July 13 to August 10, 2025. This five-week series, open to students from 5th through 10th grade, was organized and led by ESC’s North California subchapter captains, Andy and Jonathan, and attracted more than 40 enthusiastic participants eager to explore the world of coding and app development.

Weekly Online Sessions
Classes were conducted on Zoom each Sunday afternoon from 5:00–6:00 PM, followed by a 15-minute office hour for individual questions and one-on-one support. This format provided consistent weekly engagement while allowing students time to practice coding skills between sessions.

Step-by-Step Learning Experience
The camp introduced students to block-based coding using the MIT App Inventor platform—a simple and accessible template for beginners. With one main instructor supported by one to two teaching assistants, students were guided step-by-step through essential coding concepts, with real-time answers to their questions to ensure smooth progress.

Real-World Case Studies
To bridge classroom learning with real-world applications, the camp featured four case study sessions highlighting award-winning apps created by ESC Club competition teams. Each case study included a demo and analysis, showing students how coding can be used to solve community problems and inspire creative innovation.

Inspiring Future Innovators
ESC’s member design the class which is to empower students with cutting-edge AI and coding knowledge while lowering the entry barrier to STEM. By combining hands-on instruction with inspiring examples, the camp encouraged participants not only to learn how to code, but also to apply technology to real-life problem-solving in their communities.
“We want kids to feel that coding is not just for experts—it’s for everyone,” said Andy and Jonathan, ESC North California captains. “Through this program, we are nurturing the next generation of innovators who will use their creativity and skills to make a positive impact.”
